My work has an organic quality, ranging from wearable every-day jewelry produced in small editions to one-of-a-kind art jewelry and objects. I find a great deal of inspiration in the flora and fauna of where I am living, and specifically the endangered species of plants and animals that people may be unaware of. Stones are also a great source of inspiration--it is as if each stone has a separate personality, depending on its make up, coloring, and inherent marks or patterns. The shape and patterns of a stone often direct me to how they should be set and worn on the body. My more conceptual art jewelry is often influenced by life events or dreams. These pieces give me the freedom to work on a larger scale, using a variety of processes and materials.
The process of creating has become a very meditative, yet exciting experience for me. It is full of problem solving, working with a variety of materials, and generally getting lost in the act of making for hours on end. I am fascinated by even the smallest of things, such as a new pattern or material that I can incorporate into my work, or a plant I may never have seen before, or a particularly strange dream.
With everything I make and sell, there is the hope that the wearer of my work is as inspired by it as I have been in creating it.
